Ask HN: Should sociopaths be banned from business/power?

Okay, this is gonna be an incredibly controversial question I know, but after seeing a bunch of stats saying psychopathy is apparently more common in business leaders and politicians, I've often thought: Would it be morally right to just outright ban sociopaths (and maybe narcissists) from even getting into those fields at all? I mean, imagine if by some miracle technology we could test for the presence of empathy in an individual's brain or what not. Would it be right to say 'you cannot ever become a CEO, start a business or run for president' if someone had no capacity to empathise with/care for others? Would that improve society (and stop dictators) or make it worse? Ask HN: How do you organize everything you want to do?

I keep categorizing ideas that I really want to execute into groups like work, personal life, projects etc, and then try to allocate time to them. But even when I try to focus and narrow the list of things I want to do, life still gets in between. So how do you go about it? In the end I spend more time reorganizing my ideas than working on them >.<</p> Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18891069 Points: 19 # Comments: 14 from Hacker News: Front Page http://bit.ly/2AGLqXx via

Ask HN: Anyone Interested in Capture the Flag (CTF) Events?

there have been some great CTF[0][1] links here in the past[2] but many of them are from 5 or even 7 years ago[1]. Anyone still actively playing CTF in 2019 and if so what is your experience? Anyone here hosting CTF themselves? Anyone providing advanced puzzles (hardened systems that have no built in flaws?) Anyone building CTF puzzles for IoT? E.g. focus on gateway level protocols such as MQTT, COAP etc? I played a few times until 2009 but then had other things on my plate. What are the latest & greatest communities today? thanks ^_^ [0] http://bit.ly/2ChMMbb [1] http://bit.ly/2Alk2ho [2] http://bit.ly/2Cg4ig0 Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18890933 Points: 4 # Comments: 0 from Hacker News: Front Page http://bit.ly/2Rmd06G via

Ask HN: Diabetic Retinopathy Medical Device Help

Good Day All, Apologies first if the content is irrelevant. My grandma found that she’s diagnosed with diabetes in late stage so she has to inject insulin by herself every morning. Our team has started to develop a portable auto-focus fundus camera non-mydriatic for diabetic retinopathy screening and management because we thought there might be more people who under or or are in the process of vision loss. Late stage detection of retinal diseases presents serious risks because eyesight become irreversible and incurable. We want to help people all over the world ensure their health and prevent diseases, especially third-world countries with low medical accessibility. Our prototype is operating in Vietnam for beta testing. We're currently looking for any clinics / hospitals / pharmaceutical companies and partners who are interested in working with us. I've been to some MedTech conferences but was not able to get much insight. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NShPRdNl
