Ask HN: How did you decide what problems to solve in your lifetime?

In other words, how do you decide between what you want to work on and what should be worked on? I've been stuck with trying to figure what to do with the rest of my life. I can't decide whether I should be working on what I want to work on (Energy, AI) or whether I should work on what I believe should be worked on (Healthcare). It's a short life, so I want to be careful with this decision, to avoid any future regrets. Because I can't decide on this, I end up not getting anything done. Time continues to march on, while I'm still stuck with not knowing what to do. Has anyone had any experience with this before? If yes, then what and how did you make your decision? What was the outcome? Is there a middle ground or silver lining, where you managed to work on both cases? Ask HN: Is it good idea to take protein supplements in your diet?

I've a lean body and I've been working out for more than a year. But I've not gained a much of mass and I cannot see much of a difference in my body. I have seen most of the people taking protein supplements and mass gainers everyday who work out. I've also heard some people saying taking supplements is going to have side effects on your body. I would like to know if taking protein supplements and mass gainers is a good idea without any side effects on my health either now / later in my life. If this is not a good idea, then what are the other ways to gain mass and gain muscles along with my everyday workout? Ask HN: How do you keep track of your creative thoughts?

Hi Hackernews, I am a developer with lots of random creative thoughts, especially when I am in shower or after a few shots of caffeine. I have yet to find a perfect solution to keep track of my random thoughts. Here are a few things that I've tried at least for a few months: 1. Physical notebook: still using, but some times my notebook is in my backpack/left at home/in office 2. Evernote alike: never works for me. I hate the constant changing features/UI and the overhead of simply opening it 3. (My pick) use instant IM to send messages to myself: the IM tool really doesn't matter. It could be mail app, facebook messenger, slack. Laptop and phone syncing is free and always reliable. I know these are my throw away thoughts. I am wondering whether there are some amazingly good solutions that I didn't know of. Otherwise I am planning to create one for myself. Thanks!
